The Mother-Daughter Bond

The Mother-Daughter Bond

Recently we had the wonderful privilege of photographing a large extended family.  The family consisted of an eighty year old grandmother (not eighteen), three daughters whose ages I wouldn’t mention but I’ll add that they have very good genes, an adult granddaughter, several adorable younger grandchildren and great grand. What an awesome extended family – something deserving of praise.

All parties worked hard toward this photoshoot – the eldest granddaughter being the main coordinator.  She ensured all the preparations before the photoshoot were checked off (personal preparations, dress code, makeup artist, hair dresser and daily reminders before and on the day of the photoshoot . Oh and food!).  This made the photoshoot so much more enjoyable.

Though some of the women in this family were generations apart, their interaction was incredible. They understood each other’s personalities and knew their place within the family unit.  It is said, “There is great value in the mother-daughter tie because the two parties care for one another and share a strong investment in the family as a whole,” (Fingerman, author of Aging Mothers and Their Adult Daughters).

After Grandma was through being pampered she entertained us with her charm, beauty and a trip down memory lane.  She showed us her own generational photo album from ‘back in the day’ – nothing like sealing moments in history.  ‘The girls’ also humored us with the story of  this seventy-something-year-old matriarch, not only possessing a valid driver’s license, but … she  still drives and has an active  Facebook  account! Yes… Imagine that!  Lol!  I think these girls may have evolved in their relationship with their mother and finally understood what Williamson said, “There’s a critical moment when the daughter suddenly realizes that the mother is another woman.  Before that, a mother is a symbol. She’s all-knowing, all-powerful, maybe the enemy and maybe the nurturer—but you don’t see her as another woman with similar problems and experiences.” (https://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/200104/the-mother-daughter-bond)

It was beautiful capturing ‘The Mother-Daughter Bond with this family. Thank you ‘Amoroso Women’ for taking a day out of your busy schedules (from facebook and driving! Lol!) to Remember Forever that mothers and daughters do share a great bond!
